The Wonderful World of Wikis, Google Docs

The Wonderful World of WIKIS:

Googly Eyed for GOOGLE DOCS:

  • What are GOOGLE DOCs? They just make life easier. Instead of having several copies of one document, in varying degrees of editing floating around in the great abyss of cyberspace, you can place THE document on google docs and have various people go here to download or edit or view your document. Here is a link to a youtube video -- "Google Docs in Plain English": www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRqUe6IHTEA
  • Google Docs Tutorial for Teachers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9Wu2kWwSY
  • Power point presentations can also be created by several different authors using the google docs.
  • www.uen.org also has a link to create google docs

Your imagination is the limit on applications to the classroom using the Wikis and Google Docs.... have fun creating!

FSS Feeds R Us

Who knew the world of RSS feeds even existed? What a teasure chest of fun information for my future class! Take a gander at the fun stuff I found. Useful sites that are good for children to puruse and use for reports, stories, current events etc. But wait! It is not for the children alone, look again and you will find RSS feeds for teachers -- I am the world's best copy-cat when it comes to creativity. So grateful others are willing to share their knowledge and ideas with the right-brained people out there, like myself!

I posted a PODCAST today and changed up the template layout. We'll see if it is more user friendly. I'm loving learning more about technology.... I just hope I can keep up with all the assignments due in my classes, weddings, girls camp, drill team camp, youth conferences..... the list is never ending..............

Fun sites

A conglomeration of fun sites... thought I'd write them down before I forget:

  • Photo Story 3 -- from Microsoft.com. From this site you can download free software to create your own home movies made from pictures and add music. My children will love this!

  • cutestblogontheblock.com -- a place to go and get free backdrops for your blog.

  • flickr.com -- a place to go and get public domain pictures. The public domain part is important... you don't want to get caught with copyright infringements.

  • inspiration.com -- a site that contains TONS of mapping paraphenalia -- ideas, organizational charts to keep you on track, tree mapping, concept mapping -- you get the idea. You can download a free version for 30 days.

Have fun purusing!!!!

WoW!

It never ceases to amaze me all the new and cool sites that are on the net. I have come to realize that "google"ing everything is not always the best way to obtain credible information... Dr. Davis has introduced the class to uen.org -- the Utah Education Network. What a conglomeration of fun and informative morsals of wisdom. Within its vast array of wisdom, there is a "Faculty Lounge" which has broadcasts (past and future) that teach everything from ideas on how to manage your ipod, ipad, itouch etc. and use them for educational purposes, how to create a blog, the difference between an RSS feed and a Podcast, distance education information as well as networking opportunities. A wonderful find, indeed.

Summer Fun

This blog was created for my EDUC 2400 class at Dixie State University. The course is only 5 weeks long, which means TONS of work in an ever so small amount of time. Goodbye sleep -- hello insanity!
